Envisioning Our Senior Centers

Milwaukee County is committed to providing senior center programming that promotes the dignity, independence and engagement of older adults in our community. We recognize that senior centers continue to serve an important role in helping older adults age well. At the same time we must consider the structural, maintenance and ongoing resource needs of our five Milwaukee County senior centers. We must also design senior center programming which can adapt and grow to the changing needs of the aging population.

Senior Center Assessment Process

Over the past three years, Milwaukee County has embarked on a process to assess the current state of the senior centers and their programming, identify models from across the country, and gather community input to envision the future of senior center programming.

Phase I was a comprehensive assessment of the current programming being offered in the five county-owned senior centers, input from the public on these senior centers as well as an assessment of the buildings themselves.

Phase II: Models From Other Counties

Phase II was to commission a third-party (Wisconsin Policy Form) to assess different senior center models from across the country and identify insights for Milwaukee County.

Phase III: Envisioning the Future

Phase III was a series of community conversations across Milwaukee County to gather public input and discuss the future of our senior centers.

Senior Center Committee
