  Boerner Botanical Gardens

Aira Services for BLV (Blind and Low Vision): The Boerner Botanical Gardens offers Aira users free access to Aira services while visiting the facility and surrounding gardens and grounds. For more information about Aira, visit www.aira.io.

Braille Signage: Braille signage is found throughout the Education and Visitor Center on the wall located 60” above the floor on the latch side of the door.

Doors: There are two sets of automatic doors located at the east and south entrance of the Education and Visitor Center.

Drinking Fountains: Accessible water fountains are located on all three floors of the Education and Visitor Center, and the exterior of the Comfort Station

Educational Classes and Education Center: Individuals needing accommodation should contact the educator of the Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens (FBBG) in order to make a request for accommodations for a future visit date. FBBG will contact the Office for Persons with Disabilities.

Elevators: There is an accessible elevator located in the Education and Visitor Center.

Entrances: Accessible ramps are located throughout the Gardens.

Exhibits: All exhibits (including plant collections) are ADA Accessible. (Exception inner area of the Rock Garden) Can be viewed from pathway going around the Gardens.

Family (unisex) Restroom: A family (unisex) restroom is located inside the Education and Visitor Center.

First Aid: An AED machine is located by the passenger elevator in the Education and Visitor Center

Food Service: The café is open during the admission season. A soda machine is located on the first floor of the Education and Visitor Center.

Parking: Accessible parking spaces are available in the front row of the parking lot. Vehicles parked in these spaces must display a Disabled Parking Identification Permit hangtag or Disabled license plate.

Pathways: The Gardens have a mixture of pathways. There are gravel, asphalt and brick paths. However the grade may be challenging for persons using manual wheelchairs and walkers.

Public Safety: For the safety of our visitors, no weapons (guns, personal safety devices, sharp implements, etc.) are permitted inside any of our buildings.

Restrooms: Accessible restrooms are located in the Education and Visitor Center and the Comfort Station.

Service Animals: Pets are not allowed at the Botanical Gardens.  Service animals that assist individuals with disabilities and comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Service Animal Procedure are welcome at the Gardens.

Sign Language Interpreters: Individuals needing a sign language interpreter should contact the facility in order to request an interpreter for a future date. Sign language interpreter requests will be directed to the Office for Persons with Disabilities.

Signage: All signs in the Education and Visitor Center are at accessible heights.

Transit: There is not any bus service line to the Botanical Gardens

Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids and Other Power Driven Devices: Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids, and Other Power Mobility Devices that comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Wheelchair, Mobility Aids and Other Power Driven Mobility Devices Procedure are welcome at the Gardens.

WiFi: WiFi is available in the Education and Visitor Center. Ask at the front desk for the password.

  Clinton Rose Senior Center

3045 N. Martin Luther King Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53212

Drinking Fountains: Accessible water fountains are found throughout the building.

Elevators: One elevator is located in the middle of the building in front of the main hall. 

Emergency Evacuation: Each floor has a signed designated area of rescue assistance. People unable to use stairways to evacuate the building are to wait in these areas to be escorted out of the building by safety personnel.

Entrances: The main entrance of the senior center is wheelchair accessible.

Food Service: The senior center offers a meal program available Monday - Friday at 11:30 a.m. There is a suggested donation of $3 for anyone over 60, and a fee of $7 for anyone below. Please register the day before if you would like a meal.

Parking: Parking is located in the lot in front of the building, and additional parking is located behind the building. 

Public Safety: To promote building safety, weapons, personal safety devices, sharp implements, etc. are not allowed in the building.

Restrooms: Accessible restrooms are located on each floor in the center of the building by the elevator.  

Service Animals: Pets are not allowed in the Senior Center. Service animals that assist individuals with disabilities and comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Service Animal Procedure are welcome in the senior center.

Sign Language Interpreters: Individuals needing a sign language interpreter should contact the department, division, office, and/or person you need to communicate with and ask them to arrange for an interpreter for you. Sign language interpreter requests should be directed to the Office for Persons with Disabilities.

Transit: MCTS bus routes is located at the corner of 3rd and Burleigh. For more information, see MCTS Website.

Wheelchairs (Complimentary): A complimentary wheelchair is located in the coat room off of the main lobby for your use while at the senior center.

Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids and Other Power Driven Mobility Devices: Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids and Other Power Driven Mobility Devices that comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids and Other Power Driven Mobility Devices Procedure are welcome in the senior center.

  Courthouse, Milwaukee County

Assistive Listening Devices: Devices are available for use from the Office for Persons with Disabilities (see below).

Braille Signage: Braille signage is found throughout the Courthouse on the wall located 60” above the floor on the latch-side of the door.

Criminal Justice Facility Access: Courthouse access to the Criminal Justice Facility is available via the skywalk located on the north end of the Courthouse First Floor.

Elevators: Eight accessible elevators are located in the center of the Courthouse.

Entrances: The wheelchair accessible entrance to the Courthouse is located at 900 N. 10th Street (10th Street, between Wells & State Streets)

Food Service: The Courthouse Cafeteria is located on the south end of the Courthouse's Ground Floor. A snack food stand is located at the 10th Street entrance.

Office for Persons with Disabilities (OPD): OPD is located in room 307-B (south-end of the Courthouse on the 3rd floor). To contact OPD, call 414-278-3932 (voice), 414-278-3939 (Fax) or 711 (TRS). Please contact OPD staff prior to your visit to seek/request any special accommodations.

Parking: General on-street meter parking on 9th Street, 10th Street, Wells Street, and State Street. MacArthur Square parking structure (841 N. James Lovell St, Milwaukee) offers parking close to the Courthouse, 9th Street Entrance.

Public Safety: To promote building safety, a weapons screening is conducted upon entering the building. Weapons, personal safety devices, sharp implements, etc. are not allowed in the building.

Restrooms: Accessible restrooms are located on the north side of the Courthouse, floors 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5.

Safety Building Access: Courthouse access to the Safety Building is available via the skywalk located on the north end of the Courthouse First Floor.

Service Animals: Pets are not allowed in the Courthouse. Service animals that assist individuals with disabilities and comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Service Animal Procedure are welcome in the Courthouse.

Skywalk:

Courthouse - 1st Floor (to Safety Building and Criminal Justice Center)

Transit: MCTS bus routes on Wisconsin Avenue are 1 1/2 blocks south of the Courthouse. During rush hours, MCTS Freeway Flyers arrive and depart from 9th & 10th Street locations. MCTS Website

Wheelchairs (Complimentary): A limited number of complimentary wheelchairs are maintained by Facility Management (Ground Floor Room G1) for your use while at the Courthouse. A photo ID is required as a deposit. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own mobility devices, as the number of complimentary wheelchairs is limited and are loaned out on a first come first served.

Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids, and Other Power Driven Mobility Devices: Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids, and Other Power Driven Mobility Devices that comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids, and Other Power Driven Mobility Devices Procedure are welcome in the Courthouse.

  Kelly Senior Center

Drinking Fountains: Accessible water fountains are found throughout the building.

Emergency Evacuation: Each building has posted emergency evacuation signs. 

Entrances: The entrances of both buildings are wheelchair accessible.

Food Service: The senior center offers a meal program available Monday - Friday at 11:30 in the South Building.  There is a suggested donation of $3.00 for anyone over 60, and a fee of $7.00 for anyone below.  Please register the day before if you would like a meal.

Parking: Parking is located in the lot directly in front of the main building.

Public Safety: To promote building safety, weapons, personal safety devices, sharp implements, etc. are not allowed in the building.

Restrooms: Accessible restrooms in the main building are located to the left of the front door. The accessible restrooms in the south building are located inside the and down the hall to the right.

Service Animals: Pets are not allowed in the Senior Center. Service animals that assist individuals with disabilities and comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Service Animal Procedure are welcome in the senior center.

Sign Language Interpreters: Individuals needing a sign language interpreter should contact the department, division, office, and/or person you need to communicate with and ask them to arrange for an interpreter for you. Wheelchairs (Complimentary): A complimentary wheelchair is located in the main lobby by the fish tank.  In the south building one is located inside the front door.  Visitors are encouraged to bring their own mobility device.

  Marcia P. Coggs Human Services Building

The Marcia P. Coggs Center offers users free access to social services to many residents.

Emergency Evacuation: The center has emergency evacuation plans posted throughout the building.

Entrances: The wheelchair accessible entrance to the building is the main entrance off Vliet Street

Parking: Parking is in the lot at the rear (north side) of the building, with an accessible route to the front (south side) entrance doors.

Public Safety: To promote building safety, weapons, personal safety devices, sharp implements, etc. are not allowed in the building.

Restrooms: Accessible restrooms are located adjacent to the Lobby on the first floor of the building.

Service Animals: Pets are not allowed in the building. Service animals that assist individuals with disabilities and comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Service Animal Procedure are welcome in the Marcia P. Coggs Center.

Sign Language Interpreters: Individuals needing a sign language interpreter should contact the department, division, office, and/or person you need to communicate with and ask them to arrange for an interpreter for you.   McGovern Park Senior Center

Entrances: The front entrance is wheelchair accessible.

Food Service: The senior center offers a meal program available Monday - Friday at 11:30.  There is a suggested donation of $3.00 for anyone over 60, and a fee of $7.00 for anyone below.  Please register the day before if you would like a meal.

Parking: Parking is located in the lot in front of the building.

Public Safety: To promote building safety, weapons, personal safety devices, sharp implements, etc. are not allowed in the building.

Restrooms: Accessible restrooms are located in the center of the building, off of the fireside room.

Service Animals: Pets are not allowed in the senior center. Service animals that assist individuals with disabilities and comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Service Animal Procedure are welcome in the senior center.

  Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory (Domes)

Aira Services for BLV (Blind and Low Vision): The Mitchell Park Domes offers Aira users free access to Aira services while visiting the domes and surrounding grounds. For more information about Aira, visit the Aira Website.

Braille Signage: Braille is also located at the side of restroom doors.

Doors: There is one set of automated doors at the entrance to the Conservatory as well as one set to enter each individual dome.

Drinking Fountains: Accessible water fountains are stationed in the front area of the complex.

Educational Classes and Education Center: Individuals needing accommodation should contact the educator in order to make a request for accommodations for a future visit date. Educator will then contact the Office for Persons with Disabilities.

Emergency Evacuation: Each floor has a signed designated area of rescue assistance. People unable to use stairways to evacuate the building are to wait in these areas to be escorted out of the building by safety personnel.

Entrances: The wheelchair accessible entrance to the Conservatory facility is on the west side of the complex facing Layton Boulevard (27th Street).

Exhibits: All exhibits (including plant collection) are ADA accessible.

Food Service: There are no food services; only one drink and one ice cream vending machine. Both are at accessible heights.

Parking: General off-street parking in the parking lot is available with well-marked accessible parking spaces and ramped curb areas.

Pathways inside each Dome: The tropical dome and desert dome have paved pathways. However, the grade can be challenging for persons using manual wheelchairs and walkers. The show dome is bricks with a challenging grade as well for persons using manual wheelchairs and walkers.

Picnic Tables: There are picnic tables in the outdoor plaza that offer accessibility.

Restrooms: Accessible restrooms are located at the front of the complex.

Service Animals: Pets are not allowed in the Conservatory. Service animals that assist individuals with disabilities and comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Service Animal Procedure are welcome in the Conservatory.

Sign Language Interpreters: Individuals needing a sign language interpreter should contact the educator in order to request an interpreter for a future visit date. Sign language interpreter requests will be directed to the Office for Persons with Disabilities.

WiFi: Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory offers FREE WiFi in the lobby area of the facility. WiFi will automatically pop up as “Milwaukee County Guest.”

  Play Areas (Playgrounds)

Play areas—sometimes called tot lots or playgrounds—mean fun for your toddlers and young children when you visit many of the Milwaukee County Parks. Areas are designed so that children with disabilities have easier access and use of the play equipment—and more interaction with other kiddos! All new playgrounds have resilient surfaces. Some play areas are within fenced pool areas and are available only during summer pool hours.

Wehr Nature Center is a gem of the Milwaukee County Parks. With 220 acres and 5 miles of trails going through forest, prairie, savanna, and wetland, Wehr is the ideal place to enjoy, learn, and rejuvenate. WNC's award winning staff and volunteer program goes hand-in-hand with the more than 40-year-old tradition of fostering meaning nature connections for all Milwaukee County residents.

Wehr Nature Center and the Friends of Wehr are dedicated to the goal of becoming the most accessible nature center in southeast Wisconsin. Aira Services for BLV (Blind and Low Vision): The Wehr Nature Center offers Aira users free access to Aira services while visiting the nature center and surrounding grounds. For more information about Aira, visit www.aira.io.

Amphitheater: Bench seating, height of 18 inches, without backs. Platform at the top of the amphitheater is used as accessible seating. Three temporary companion seats can be added to accompany the three accessible seats during public events. Ramp access to stage.

Entrances: Front entrance is currently the only accessible entrance with automatic doors with a clear open width of 32 inches. There are no stairs to building entrance.

Food Service: There are no food services; juice, water, hot chocolate, coffee and granola bars are sold at the front desk.

Nature Exhibits: Permanent and seasonal exhibit areas throughout the building have an accessible route of travel. Overall, items are within average line of site. Mobile, hands-on tables are between 21-24 inches tall. One table displays skulls, shells and other artifacts. Another table is full of sensory items, including feathers, skins, etc.

Nature Store: Gift shop with nature-themed gifts, books, and activity kits. Doors remain open, with clear open width of 59 inches. Overall, there is a clear route of travel throughout the shop.

Observation Deck: Accessible deck offers a scenic view of Mallard Lake and is a great spot for bird watching. The deck has three benches for companion seating.

Parking: Accessible parking is available in the marked spaces closest to the Nature Center building. There are two spots on the first side of the lot and three spots directly across. Distance from parking to entrance is 246 ft.

Pier: An accessible pier is located on Wetland Trail. Scenic view of Mallard Lake and wildlife viewing. No fishing permitted on Nature Center property.

PreK-12 Fieldtrips and Scout/Youth Groups: Supports and activity accommodations available. Please contact the Accessibility & Inclusion Coordinator to make arrangements prior to your visit.

Reception: Reception area is easily located just past automatic front entry. Front desk is marked with large "Admissions" sign. The area stands out front the rest of the building as its walls are painted bright green. Counter height is 40 inches.

Restrooms, Men’s: Push plate entrance, pull handle exit. Doors can be propped open upon request. Free floor space in stall 62 inches X 32 inches with toilet height of 17 inches, 2 grab bars. Sink height is 33 inches.

Restrooms, Women’s: Push plate entrance, pull handle exit. Doors can be propped open upon request. Free floor space in stall 70 inches X 36 inches with toilet height of 17 inches, 2 grab bars. Sink height is 33 inches.

Service Animals: Pets are not allowed on the Nature Center property. Service animals that assist individuals with disabilities and comply with the Milwaukee County ADA Service Animal Procedure are welcome at the Nature Center.

Sign Language Interpreters: Individuals needing a sign language interpreter should contact the Accessibility & Inclusion Coordinator in order to request an interpreter for a future visit date. Sign language interpreter requests will be directed to the Office for Persons with Disabilities.

Trail: Wetland Trail is currently being converted to a loop trail with a connection from the accessible amphitheater area. It is an elevated boardwalk through the wetland natural area including; accessible pier, scenic view of lake, gathering area with benches, bridge over stream bed. Sections of the boardwalk trail are still under construction. Until final boardwalk connections are made, the trail is used as a one way trail (out and back on the same trail).

Emergency Evacuation: Each floor has a signed designated area of rescue assistance. People unable to use stairways to evacuate the building are to wait in these areas to be escorted out of the building by safety personnel.

Entrances: Both the east entrance, and the circle driveway entrance are wheelchair accessible.

Food Service: The senior center offers a meal program available Monday - Friday at 11:30, located in the lower level. Access to the lower level is located at the east entrance.  There is a suggested donation of $3.00 for anyone over 60, and a fee of $7.00 for anyone below.  Please register the day before if you would like a meal.

Parking: Parking is located east of the building in the large lot.  Drop off is available at the circle driveway.

  • Ocean Connections Seal & Sea Lion Programs: There is a wheelchair accessible area from which to watch the show. For the safety of our animals, service animals are not permitted in the first three rows of the bleachers.
  • Safari Train (sponsored by North Shore Bank): Accessible only for transfers. There is a separate gate for wheelchairs and other mobility devices; please notify ticket seller. Wheelchairs and other mobility devices may be left on the platform while on train ride. 
  • Sky Adventure Zip Line and Ropes Courses: Currently not ADA accessible. 
  • Sky Safari: Currently not ADA accessible. 
  • Zoo Expeditions (sponsored by Meijer): One of the Zoo’s three trams is accessible. Please call ahead to ensure availability of the accessible tram on the day of your visit. 

Drinking Fountains: Accessible water fountains are available in various Zoo buildings and are typically located outside of the restrooms.

Elevators: There are accessible elevators located in the Peck Welcome Center and the Karen Peck Katz Conservation Education Center.

Entrances: All Zoo buildings that are publicly-accessible have a wheelchair accessible entrance.

Family (unisex) Restroom: A family (unisex) restroom with changing area is located outside of the Zoo Gift Shop, next to the First Aid Station.

First Aid: A First Aid Station is located outside of the Zoo Gift Shop, across from the Sky Trail Ropes Course.

Food Service: The Flamingo Café is located on the northern end of the U.S. Bank Gathering Place. There are other concession stands located throughout the Zoo grounds that are open seasonally – please visit milwaukeezoo.org for hours and other details.

Parking: Accessible parking spaces are available in the front of lots 1, 2 and 3. Vehicles parked in these spaces must display a Disabled Parking Identification Permit hangtag or Disabled / Veteran license plates.

Picnic Tables: There are picnic tables that offer accessibility throughout the Zoo grounds.

For the safety of our visitors and staff, weapons (guns, personal safety devices, sharp implements, etc.) are prohibited in Zoo buildings and on Zoo grounds during posted special events. 

The Zoo is a smoke-free attraction (including e-cigarettes and vaporizers). Smoking is allowed only in the Zoo parking lots. 

Restrooms: Accessible restrooms are located in the following buildings: Aquatic & Reptile Center, Giraffe, Nourish 414, Family Farm Marketing and Communications Offices, Dairy Complex, Peck Welcome Center, Primates of the World, Florence Mila Borchert Big Cat Country, Flamingo Café and U.S. Bank Gathering Place. Family restrooms with changing areas are located outside of the Zoo Gift Shop and at the West Entrance. 

Sensory Processing Needs: The Milwaukee County Zoo features quiet areas, headphone zones, and offers for use sensory bags (located at Guest Services in the US Bank Gathering Place, and the Welcome Center in the Peck Welcome Center) with noise canceling headphones, fidgets, feeling zones cards, weighted lap pad, and more.
