Recovery Support Coordination (RSC)

Recovery Support Coordination provides a strength-based approach to case management, fostering an active partnership between the consumers at least once per week to support service planning, coordination, and delivery.  Beyond formal services, RSC offers an additional layer of support tailored to individual needs.

CARS provides RSC services to various target populations, includes pregnant women managing substance use disorders, families with minor children, adults with opioid use disorders and/or intravenous drug use (IV).

Bridge Housing

The purpose of Bridge Housing is to provide interim lodging for individuals or families who are struggling with substance abuse and/or co-occurring mental health issues and need a supportive living environment while working toward self-sufficiency.  Bridge Housing can be funded by Milwaukee County for an initial authorization of three months for an individual/family not receiving an income.  Most Bridge Housing allows self-pay for individuals/families able to fund themselves after County funding lapses.

Peer Support Services

Peer Support workers are people who have been successful in the recovery process who help others experiencing similar situations.  Through shared understanding, respect, and mutual empowerment, peer support workers help people become and stay engaged in the recovery process and reduce the likelihood of relapse.  Peer support services can effectively extend the reach of treatment beyond the clinical setting into the everyday environment of those seeking a successful, sustained recovery process.

Yoga and Meditation

Yoga is an ancient spiritual practice from India that uses breath control, physical exercise, and meditative postures.  The practice of yoga uses "asanas" or various physical poses to achieve a divine connection with the universe.  Some people refer to yoga as "moving meditation", where you calm your mind and create awareness through doing the poses.

Meditation or "dhyana" is also a part of yoga.  Like the physical practice of yoga, dyhana also forms a profound connection with the universe by doing mental exercises to bring you to a higher state of consciousness.  This connection happens in savasana when you are in a meditative, peaceful state.

Both yoga and meditation help reduce stress, anxiety, and physical pain.  This is available to all TANF funded clients.

Occupational Skills/Community Employment Programs

The purpose of Occupational Skills Training and Community Employment Programs (also referred to as Work Adjustment Training) is to provide training for individuals who have limited work skills and/or have been out of the workforce for an extended period.  Current providers include the Goodwill Training Program and Standards of Excellence.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Housing

The TANF Housing Program is designed to help TANF eligible individuals in recovery overcome housing instability. The program provides financial support to cover upfront housing costs such as first months rent, security deposits, and  when needed, essential furniture items.  This support allows individuals to focus on their recovery and achieve greater stability.

The program primarily uses a master lease model, which offers housing options for individuals who may face challenges such as past evictions or limited income.  Participants can stay in master lease units for up to 6 months, giving the time to stabilize and transition into permanent housing.
