Milwaukee County is home to over 950,000 people living in one of 19 communities, which range in size from the City of Milwaukee, with 595,000 residents, to the Village of River Hills, with roughly 1,600 residents.

Have a Picnic

Picnic Season Runs From May 1 Through Oct. 15

Get out your picnic basket! Nearly 150 picnic areas, along with picnic shelters and pavilions, are available for rent throughout Milwaukee County. If you’re counting on having picnic tables for your party or if you plan on drinking alcohol, grilling, or putting up a tent or bounce house, you'll need to reserve a site. Otherwise, set down your blanket and open that picnic basket!

Picnic Areas

Most parks have one or more picnic areas available for rent. These are open areas with picnic tables and are available from May 1 through Oct. 15. Rental rates are based on the size of your group. Your reservation includes use of the area at any time between 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. on the day of your rental.

Picnic Shelters

If you need a back-up plan for poor weather, or you want easy access to restrooms, rent a picnic sites with a shelter. Shelters are available from May 1 through Oct. 15 and include use of the picnic tables, restrooms and access to electrical outlets. Rental rates are based on the size of your group (see chart above) plus a fee for the shelter (below). Your reservation includes use of the area between 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. on the day of your rental.

Park Pavilions

If you need an all-weather area for your picnic, several park pavilions are available for rent. Pavilions typically include an event room, small kitchenette and restrooms. Rentals are for four hours, minimum.

No-Staking Rule
Staking is NOT allowed, due to underground irrigation systems, power lines, or other utility lines. Tents or other structures must be secured with sandbags or weights.

How to Rent

Picnic areas, shelters and pavilions can be rented by calling our public services team at (414) 257-8005. We accept bookings two years in advance and require at least two-weeks notice. Payment in full is required to confirm your booking. We accept MasterCard, American Express, Discover and Visa.

Bookings can also be taken in person at the Milwaukee County Parks office in Wauwatosa, Mon. – Fri., 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

How to Have a Picnic

Cancellations

To cancel your reservation, you must submit the Cancellation Request Form to the Public Services Office. If received 90 days or more prior to your rental date, you will receive a full refund minus the processing fee. If received 90 to 30 days prior to the scheduled date, you will receive a 50% refund. If less than 30 days prior to the scheduled date, you will not receive a refund. Refunds are not issued due to unfavorable weather conditions. Rentals are not rescheduled due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Fourth of July Picnics

We do not take reservations for the Fourth of July. On this holiday, enjoy picnic sites on a first-come, first-served basis.
