From parades and flag-raising ceremonies to bike-decorating and patriotic pet-costume contests, local municipalities are planning family-friendly activities at various sites during the day, and many plan fireworks in the evening. Be sure to check the event organizer's website / facebook page for details about the offerings at the location you'd like to visit!
Sheridan Park, 4800 S. Lake Drive Decorate the kids' bikes and start your celebration with the parade at noon. Then, from 1-6 p.m., visit Library Square for music by 5 Card Studs, games, and food. Finally, find a spot to set down your blanket at Sheridan Park for the fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

Kletzsch Park, 6650 N. Milwaukee River Parkway Everyone is invited to come to the Parade Extravaganza along the Milwaukee River Parkway at 10 a.m., and to return to Kletzsch Park at 4:30 p.m. for the Food Truck Festival, bouncy houses, dunk tank, face painting, henna tattoos, and the famed Summer Soak. The Mayor's Welcome kicks off the evening of live music by Failure to Launch, from 6-9 p.m., and the Grand Fireworks Display, at 9:15 p.m. Be sure to bring lawn chairs or blankets!

Grant Park, Areas #5, #5A & #6, 100 Hawthorne Ave. The Call to Colors kicks of the day, at 10 a.m., followed by the kiddie parade. Then it's off to the park for races and games . . .AND. . . ice cream! Other activities entertain the kiddos during the day. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. RAIN DATE: July 5

Gather the family for the holiday parade! The parade steps off from the Hoyt Pool Parking lot at 9 a.m. After the parade, from 1-3 p.m., enjoy the program at the Library / City Hall parking lot. (Fireworks are postponed to Aug. 7.)

Celebrate the Fourth! Activities at Hales Corners park and surrounding areas begin with the Firecracker Four four-mile run. Spend the day and enjoy TWO PARADES: at 9:30 a.m., the children's parade, AND, at 4 p.m., the Community Parade. Fun includes bed races (nearby), the patriotic pet-costume contest, children's field games, a hot-dog-eating contest, and more! To participate in a parade or contest, SIGN UP at the Village website!
