Architecture and Engineering

Who We Are

Architecture, Engineering & Environmental Services (AE & ES) provides professional and technical services related to the maintenance, construction and rehabilitation of the public infrastructure and preservation of Milwaukee County's natural resources. The AE & ES Section is comprised of the Architectural Services Unit, Civil Engineering & Site Development Unit, Environmental Services Unit, Airport Engineering Unit, Facilities Condition Assessment Unit and the Planning & Development Unit.

We contract with a wide variety of contractors and consultants to implement various public works projects around Milwaukee County. In a typical year, the section contracts $64 million of work with over 150 contractors and consultants. A majority of these funds are for construction and consulting based contracts. The section adheres to, and enforces, equal opportunity for the variety of business opportunities available to the public.

Architectural Services Unit

The Architectural Services Unit provides planning, design, project management, technical services in building maintenance, remodeling, additions and new construction for all Milwaukee County departments.

Specific tasks preformed include project budget development and construction cost and scheduling estimation, bid document preparation, evaluation and contract award, design development and project management, from conception to project completion.

Veterans Park Pavilion

Civil Engineering & Site Development Unit

This Unit provides civil engineering and land surveying services.

Specific services include project management, planning and design, technical specifications and bidding documents, engineering feasibility studies and needs assessments for Milwaukee County facilities, certified survey maps, site surveys, cost estimating and construction management.

Environmental Services Unit

Environmental Services provides technical and managerial services concerning environmental and sustainability issues for Milwaukee County's building and infrastructure assets.

Airport Engineering

The Airport Engineering Unit provides planning, design and construction management services for all major maintenance and capital projects at General Mitchell International and Lawrence J. Timmerman Airports.

They also coordinate planning and administration of projects with state and federal agencies, airlines and other airport tenants.

Facilities Condition Assessment Unit

The Facilities Condition Assessment Program (FCAP) provides building systems condition assessment inspection services for county-owned facilities and administers a software-based asset management system that is a repository for all the building condition data and building system deficiencies. This database provides the basis for major maintenance and capital improvement project requests.

FCAP also provides countywide record management services that also includes management of AE & ES delivered project record archives.
