Winter Activities In the Snow

When cabin fever kicks in, find plenty to do in the parks this winter.

Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

Snowshoes and cross-country skis are available for rent in the Whitnall Park Clubhouse on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (when the trails are open). All Milwaukee County Parks allow cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, with groomed trails available at select locations.

Sledding & Tubing

A dozen County Parks have hills ideal for sledding, when conditions allow. Whitnall Park Clubhouse is open on Saturdays and Sundays with a fire and hot chocolate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (when the trails are open).

  • Wilson Recreation Center, 4001 S. 20 St.
  • Whitnall Park (near the clubhouse) 6751 S. 92nd St.

All-Day Designated Sledding Hills

Lit from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

  • Currie Park, 3535 N. Mayfair Road (Lit until 10 p.m.)
  • Humboldt Park, 3000 S. Howell Ave.

Ice Skating

When the weather allows, ice-skating rinks are available at several Milwaukee County Parks. Some locations have designated areas for hockey practice when conditions permit. Ice must be 6 inches thick to open for public skating. Pay attention to "Thin Ice" signs. No ice fishing in skating areas.
