The Clerk of Circuit Courts works to ensure public safety by providing judges, attorneys, persons proceeding without an attorney, and all other persons involved in Circuit Court proceedings or other functions of the Circuit Court with courteous, proficient and professional services that facilitate the operations of the First Judicial District of Milwaukee County Circuit Court Divisions.
The Comptroller maintains Milwaukee County’s accounting books, monitors and reports on budget versus actual fiscal results, prepares annual financial reports of the government and its agencies, and analyzes proposals for the use of county funds. The Office of the Comptroller works to ensure that fiscal decisions are made based on sound financial information. In addition, the Office of the Comptroller provides fiscal information to policy makers to assist them in their policy directives.
We issue marriage licenses, register all lobbyists and lobbying principals and report lobbying activity to the public. We also accept applications for passports and sell Milwaukee County bus fares and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) licenses and permits.
As an information clearinghouse for county government, the County Clerk administers oaths of office, maintains the central files for Milwaukee County reports, records, contracts and corporate documents, and receives and publicly opens competitive bids for county contracts. We also receive claims filed against Milwaukee County.
We record the proceedings of the County Board of Supervisors, maintain all legislative files, update existing ordinances and publish new ordinances online. We staff all County Board meetings. We maintain the County Legislative Information Center (CLIC), which provides online public access to legislative documents, meeting agendas and minutes and live streaming of County Board meetings.
The mission of the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office is to promote public safety through the fair and just prosecution of criminal offenses; to protect the health and welfare of children who are victims of child abuse and neglect; to advocate for justice for the victims of crimes; to safeguard the rule of law; and to promote citizens' participation in sustainable neighborhoods by treating all persons who come in contact with the criminal justice system with fairness, dignity and respect.
MCSO provides law enforcement services for the Circuit Court, Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, and the County Institutions, patrols the freeway and maintains the county jail.
Delivered in a prompt and courteous manner, the Register of Deeds provides secure, accurate, archival accessible and cost-effective record systems and services.
The Treasurer acts as the county's banker, receiving and disbursing all funds; providing for daily cash requirements and investing public funds.
