The Milwaukee County Emergency Medical Services (MCEMS) system serves Milwaukee County residents and visitors across 19 municipalities covering an area of 241 square miles. In the MCEMS system, 15 EMS agencies work together to provide high-quality, life-saving pre-hospital care across Milwaukee County. All fire departments in the MCEMS system share common protocols and standards of care developed under medical direction provided by the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Emergency Medicine since 1973. In 2022, the MCEMS system encountered 111,089 patients and transported 43,183 patients to 20 area hospitals.
The Milwaukee County EMS System recognizes the value of continuous quality improvement and data-driven decision making. By sharing data with the residents of Milwaukee County, academic researchers, public health organizations, local receiving hospitals and other stakeholders, the MCEMS System is actively working toward its mission to ensure the highest quality of patient care with a focus on equity, compassion and innovation.
