EMS Stroke Dashboard

Stroke Response Starts Here.

About the Data

A stroke, also known as a brain attack, is caused by a clot or bleeding blood vessel. A stroke can damage the brain, leading to long-term issues, impairment, or even death. As soon as there are any indications of a stroke, dial 911. Rapid recognition and treatment for a stroke increases the patient's chances of survival and decreases likelihood of disability. In the Milwaukee County EMS system, EMS Clinicians can activate a "stroke alert" from the field to notify the hospital of a suspected stroke patient, saving critical time and brain function.

Data elements reported and analyzed for the stroke dashboard are gathered from various sources including, but not limited to, computer aided dispatch records, ImageTrend electronic patient care record. Zoll electronic and code summary data, First Watch, controlled substance monitoring systems, medical command documents and recorded EMSCOM-physician consultations, input from the OEM-EMS adverse event reporting email and electronic patient care EMS and hospital records.
