Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley Kicks Off 2024 Healthy County Challenge
In its third year, Milwaukee residents are encouraged to join in healthy events throughout the summer
MILWAUKEE – Today, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley announced the third year of the annual Healthy County Challenge. Launched in 2022, County Executive Crowley’s Healthy County Challenge is aimed at bringing County residents into parks, trails, nature areas, beaches, and other outdoor spaces to foster physical and mental wellness. The 2024 slate of events is hosted in partnership with the Milwaukee County Parks, Milwaukee Parks Foundation, and our accessibility partner The Ability Center, with the generous support of the Brewers Community Foundation.
“I am personally inviting our Milwaukee County residents to join me in our parks this summer for fun, healthy activities,” said Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. “The Milwaukee County Parks are a gem in our community, and I remain committed to ensuring equitable access to these important parks, trails, beaches, and green spaces so every one of our residents can maintain a healthy lifestyle. I’m looking forward to hosting folks outside this summer for my annual Healthy County Challenge!”
According to Scientific Reports, spending at least two hours per week outdoors in nature can result in critical positive effects on mental health and wellbeing. The 2024 Healthy County Challenge events will provide free or low-cost opportunities for residents to get outside, move their bodies, enjoy the county parks and trails, and improve their mental health.
“The Milwaukee Parks Foundation is excited to partner with County Executive Crowley and the Milwaukee County Parks on another great lineup of healthy events this summer,” said Becky Stoner, Milwaukee Parks Foundation Executive Director. “Our mission is to collectively steward a thriving park system. We look forward to engaging with our neighbors through the Heathy County Challenge to champion our parks.”
“Brewers Community Foundation takes great pride in joining the Healthy County Challenge,” said Cecelia Gore, Brewers Community Foundation Executive Director. “We recognize how important it is to strive for good health. The healthier we are, the stronger we are.”
Individual events are hosted in partnership with community organizations, including the Wisconsin Bike Federation, SocialX MKE, First Tee, Gift of Wings, and the Friends Groups of our Milwaukee County Parks.
