Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley Appointed to Governor's Council on Workforce Investment

 
GREEN BAY – Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley has been appointed to the Governor's Council on Workforce Investment (CWI), an advisory body tasked with shaping workforce development strategies across the State of Wisconsin. The Council is responsible for advising the Governor on workforce investment efforts, including Wisconsin’s implementation of the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). CWI is also charged with aiding Wisconsin employers in finding the workers they need and providing resources to enable Wisconsinites to access training for in-demand careers, with the ultimate goal of moving Wisconsin's economy forward. On Tuesday, County Executive Crowley attended his first CWI meeting in Green Bay, Wisconsin, since being appointed to the council.

“I am honored to join Governor Tony Evers’ Council on Workforce Investment because Milwaukee County's perspective as the economic engine of the state is critical to fostering the next generation of workers in Wisconsin,” said County Executive Crowley. “As we work to boost economic growth, job opportunities, and small business creation, it’s crucial our workforce development strategies reflect the diverse needs of all Wisconsinites. I look forward to collaborating with partners across the Badger State to ensure we are prepared to meet the workforce challenges and opportunities of today, tomorrow, and beyond.”

The CWI is tasked with aligning workforce development initiatives with the needs of Wisconsin’s employers, workers, and jobseekers. This includes creating policies and strategies that address the state's most pressing workforce challenges, such as increasing talent attraction and retention, closing the skills gap, and implementing innovative technological advancements to benefit Wisconsin’s workforce.

As a member of CWI, County Executive Crowley will work closely with state leaders, business representatives, and community stakeholders to develop and implement workforce strategies that support economic growth and address the unique needs of Milwaukee County and the entire State of Wisconsin.

"By investing in our workforce, we are not only strengthening our economy, but also empowering individuals and families to achieve their full potential. That’s because, as we know, what’s good for Milwaukee County is good for the entire state of Wisconsin."

Crowley’s CWI appointment comes at a time when Milwaukee County is making strides in advancing workforce development efforts, particularly in supporting underrepresented communities. During his first term, Crowley renamed the Community Business Development Partners into the Milwaukee County Office of Economic Inclusion, reiterating the focus on increasing diverse contracting opportunities at Milwaukee County for minority-owned businesses and local workers.
