Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson Call On 2026 Youth Commission Applications

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson, and County officials hosted a press conference to encourage applications for the 2026 term of the Milwaukee County Youth Commission at Tiefenthaler Park.

“The Milwaukee County Youth Commission gives our young people a platform to turn their passion into policy and be part of shaping the decisions that impact their neighborhoods, their communities, and their lives,” said County Executive David Crowley. “I encourage every eligible high school student to apply and help drive the change they want to see. With leaders like them stepping up, I know the future of Milwaukee County is in good hands.”

“Young people have the vision, enthusiasm, and leadership our communities need and the Milwaukee County Youth Commission gives them a real seat at the table,” said Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson. “As a former MPS teacher, I’m proud to continue supporting this initiative alongside County Executive Crowley to ensure youth voices are empowered and given the opportunity to help shape the future of Milwaukee County.”

The Youth Commission is actively recruiting students in the following districts for 2026 participation:

  • District 1 | Deadline for November 14

  • District 6 | Deadline November 14

  • District 8 | Deadline November 14

  • District 14 | Deadline August 1

  • District 16 | Deadline November 14

  • District 17 | Deadline August 1

Applications will be accepted throughout the year for each district for the coming open terms.

In 2022, Chairwoman Nicholson and County Executive Crowley co-authored a resolution to revive the Youth Commission, which was adopted unanimously by the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. The Youth Commission works in partnership with the County Executive and County Board Chairwoman to make advisory recommendations about policy and budgetary decisions to the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, and to advance Milwaukee County’s mission of achieving racial equity.

To be eligible, Commissioners must reside in Milwaukee County, be between age 14-18 (as of January 1, 2025), and be actively attending high school.

Applications can be submitted online at county.milwaukee.gov/Youth-Commission.
