County Executive David Crowley Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month by Unveiling New MCTS Bus Design
MILWAUKEE – Today at Walker Square Park on Milwaukee’s South Side, County Executive David Crowley joined local leaders to celebrate the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month by unveiling Milwaukee County’s first-ever Hispanic Heritage bus. Sponsored by Lamar Transit Advertising and designed by Latino Arts, Inc., the vibrant, culturally inspired bus design celebrates the contributions, resilience, and culture of Milwaukee’s Hispanic and Latino communities. The bus will enter service starting today and will travel along MCTS routes throughout Milwaukee County for one year.
“I am proud that this beautifully-designed bus will ride along our roads as a reflection of the County’s commitment to celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and advancing our mission to achieve equity in all measurable areas,” said County Executive Crowley. “Hispanic and Latino people have a profound, positive impact on our community through an unwavering commitment to family, faith, hard work, and service. The bus is a moving tribute to the resilience and creativity that defines Milwaukee County’s Hispanic and Latino communities, and I look forward to seeing this inspiring symbol travel throughout our neighborhoods in the months ahead.”
The “¡Te Amo MKE!” bus design was created to celebrate Milwaukee’s vibrant Hispanic and Latino communities that bring beauty, resilience, and diversity to every neighborhood in Milwaukee County and beyond. The design highlights the collective identity of Hispanic and Latino culture through music, dance, and artistic traditions from across Latin America and the Caribbean. A bold banner with the phrase “¡Te Amo MKE!” (“I Love You, Milwaukee!”) serves as both a celebration and an invitation, honoring Hispanic and Latino heritage while inviting the greater Milwaukee community to share in pride, creativity, and connection. The design of the bus was led by Jacobo Lovo, Managing Artistic Director at Latino Arts, alongside graphic designer Melenie Gonzalez of Latino Arts, Inc. and United Community Center).

During today’s community event, County Executive Crowley also formally proclaimed September as Hispanic Heritage Month to celebrate and uplift the Hispanic and Latino residents who represent a vibrant, essential part of Milwaukee County’s history and future.
Hispanic Heritage Month, whose roots go back to 1968, begins each year on September 15, the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries. This month is a special time to celebrate the vibrant cultures, histories and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.
