Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley Launches Healthy County Initiative
County Executive Crowley to Kick Off Initiative on April 2 in Sherman Park, As Call to Residents to Join in Forging Healthier Lifestyles and Promoting County Parks
MILWAUKEE, WI – Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley today announced the launch of the Healthy County Challenge – aimed at bringing County residents into parks, trails, nature areas, beaches, and other outdoor spaces to foster physical and mental wellness. The effort is made possible through collaboration with Milwaukee County Parks, the Milwaukee Parks Foundation and The Ability Center. The first event in the series, a 3K Community Walk, will take place at Sherman Park on April 2 at 9 a.m.
The Healthy County Challenge, which will include a community walk, a hike, an organized bike ride, group exercise, basketball, and a river clean-up, among other park-related activities, aligns with the County Vision that by achieving racial equity Milwaukee will become the healthiest county in Wisconsin.
“I am personally inviting all residents to join the Healthy County initiative,” said County Executive David Crowley. “Milwaukee County is committed to addressing inequities by ensuring equitable access to parks, trails, and outdoor spaces in a way that supports healthy lifestyles for all of our residents.”
The initiative is part of a comprehensive and collaborative effort to engage all Milwaukee County residents. During his State of the County address, County Executive Crowley declared it the Year of the Youth, a unique initiative to lift up young people and provide a range of activities and opportunities. Earlier this month, Milwaukee County also launched a Community Health & Healing Series that focuses on discussions about mental health, increasing awareness of available resources and eliminating barriers to services. The series is visiting communities deeply affected by the pandemic and increased violence.
