County Executive and Mayor Wrap Up the Milwaukee Holiday Drive

Generous Donors Help Address the Needs of House Fire Victims

MILWAUKEE - The annual Milwaukee City-County Holiday Drive concluded Monday with a strong showing of generosity. Local contributors gave more than 1,700 items to this year’s Drive, and those donations will assist Milwaukee area families who experience house fires.  The local chapter of the American Red Cross accepted the donations which included everything from basic toiletries to stuffed animals.

Again this year, the Milwaukee Brewers Community Foundation supported the drive complementing the hundreds of donations made by individuals across the city and county.

“Every year I look forward to this annual holiday drive.  It truly shows what we can achieve when we come together as a community,” County Executive David Crowley said. “It reminds me that, in Milwaukee County, we are at our best when we look out for one another.”

“The commitment behind these contributions is admirable, making sure families have the resources they need in order to regain stability following a house fire,” Mayor Cavalier Johnson said. “From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every person who took the time and contributed to this effort.”

“Behind every donation is a story: a child who will clutch a stuffed animal for comfort and security, a parent who receives a toothbrush or a bar of soap and feels dignity and a sense of normalcy amid so much loss,” Catherine Rabenstine, Regional Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross said. “These items may seem small, but their impact is profound.”

Donations of new items were collected at numerous locations over the past three weeks.  The Holiday Drive began 2007, and it has affirmed this community’s charitable spirit in all the years since its inception.
