Open Audit Recommendations (OAR) Dashboard

Welcome to the Office of the Comptroller, Audit Services Division (ASD)'s Open Audit Recommendations (OAR) Dashboard. This dashboard allows the public and policymakers to view what recommendations remain in "open" status, when follow-up reports are expected, recommendations and latest comments from ASD and auditees, and a list of closed audit reports going back to 2012. Below the OAR Dashboard is a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section which answers common questions about ASD's recommendation follow-up process.
OAR Dashboard FAQ
What is an audit recommendation follow-up?
Our office remains in contact with auditees, generally on a six-month schedule, dated from publication of the original audit report. This is to "follow-up" on the recommendations from our audit reports, to determine where departments stand in terms of implementing the audit recommendations.
Return to TopWhat "recommendation statuses" does ASD use?
Open - The recommendation remains uncompleted or is in process of implementation.
Closed - The recommendation has been implemented or completed, in the determination of our office.
Return to TopWho decides a recommendation status?
ASD, after conducting our routine follow-up, evaluates the updates and documentation from relevant departments. We then determine if the progress made since the audit report or last follow-up allows for closing a recommendation or having it remain open, to be followed-up again in about six months.
Generally, our office aims to have auditee management close out recommendations between 18-24 months from audit report publication.
Return to TopWhere would I find audit reports and recommendation follow-ups?
ASD presents both new audit reports and recommendation follow-up reports to the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors' Committee on Audit, and any other referred committees, and uploads them to the County Legislative Information Center (CLIC).
New audit reports are published on ASD's website under "Featured Reports." Our back catalogue of audit reports can be found on the Comptroller's Reports webpage, then select the filter "Audit Service Reports".
The OAR Dashboard allows for viewing of the current open recommendations and the follow-up schedule. On several OAR Dashboard pages, you'll find "View CLIC Page for Audit Report" and "View CLIC Page for Follow-Up Report," which link to the CLIC webpages for these files. The linked pages will show the legislative history of the file, and the reports as well.
Return to TopWhat happens to audits that close all recommendations?
Audit reports that close all recommendations appear on the Closed Reports page of the OAR Dashboard. The CLIC page for each audit report and final follow-up report are linked as well. These audit reports no longer receive follow-ups.
Return to TopHow often is the OAR Dashboard updated?
The OAR Dashboard is updated by ASD as follow-up reports are prepared and reviewed by our office. The follow-up reports are then submitted to the County Board, to be presented during the next committee cycle. For example, if ASD reaches out to an auditee to complete a follow-up report in June, the follow-up report would be presented in the July cycle.
