Language Access
Milwaukee County is committed to helping residents with limited English proficiency access services. The Milwaukee County Office of Equity provides Language Access technical support to Milwaukee County departments for community events, emergency services, departmental programming, or departmental services. During the early stage of this initiative, we have collaborated with County departments and community partners on multiple County projects and community events.

Language Access and Milwaukee County
The Office of Equity partners with departments across Milwaukee County to provide language access training and coordinated translation and interpretation services. By building staff capacity and ensuring consistent support, these collaborations help more residents receive clear, culturally accurate, responsive information and improve their ability to navigate county programs and services.

Language Access Equity in Action
To meet urgent communication needs during the August 2025 floods, the Office of Equity delivered 8 translated essential documents across three languages: Spanish, Arabic, and Hmong. The availability of this information helped residents communicate directly with service providers and access recovery support without barriers, ensuring residents received clear, accessible information when it mattered most. The Office of Equity also facilitated requests for language access support for key community events such as budget listening sessions and town halls, which expanded the ability for Milwaukee residents to participate and engage civically.
Language Access Technical Assistance
The Office of Equity provides year‑round language access support to Milwaukee County departments and residents. Services include translation for internal documents, interpretation for one‑on‑one and group interactions, and language support for community events. The office delivers these services in the languages most requested by Milwaukee residents.
