Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the American Indian Movement in Milwaukee. At this FREE event, you'll learn about the abandoned Coast Guard Station, the treaty for the return of abandoned federal property to the original inhabitants -- Native peoples of Milwaukee -- and the 1971 occupation. Enjoy presentations by Oneida Smoke Dancers, and Native American artists with performances in song, music and spoken word (links provided below). At 2 p.m. Dorothy Ninham-Powless of the Oneida Nation, who led the occupation with her husband, Herb Powless, will give the keynote talk and Q&A.

Among the musicians are Bill Miller, Grammy Winner for Best Native American Album, a singer/songwriter and master of Native American flute and acoustic guitar; and Buggin Malone, internationally known for his Native American / Socio-Political Rap and activism--this Milwaukeean's mother was part of the Occupation.
