Delinquency & Court Services
The Delinquency and Courts Division consists of four major areas - Administration, Detention, Purchased Delinquency Services and Probation Services.
Delinquency and Courts Administration plans and directs all delinquency-related Children's Court activities and develops and implements non-judicial operational procedures of court and custody intake, detention, probation and community-based services. In addition, administration is responsible for all support services, including maintaining all Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services records, tracking delinquency referrals and probation cases, procurement, budgeting, accounting and general reception services.
The Detention Center directs and provides for the care of juveniles detained. Detention support staff are responsible for the supervision of all juveniles detained, as well as coordination of their daily activities. Remedial education, sanctions program, mental health and AODA assessments and other short-term services are provided in this unit. In addition, youth are frequently provided with other educational, vocational and health-related opportunities by community volunteers. Trained Intake staff implement judges' policies on all new charges and admission to the Detention Center. In addition, they complete interviews and investigations, per Wisconsin statutes and ultimately recommend services needed in each case situation.
The Purchased Delinquency Services area consists of a variety of community-based programs, including foster and group care services, the First Time Juvenile Offender Program, the Firemarms Offender Program, the FOCUS Program and services designed to address both mental health and substance abuse issues.
The Probation area functions include coordination of community services, monitoring of conditions of supervision, counseling and other support services to both youth and their families.
