Open House: Milwaukee County Invites Public Engagement on Budget
Milwaukee - This September, Milwaukee County will hold five open house-style meetings on the 2019 County budget, hosted as a partnership between Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and the Board of Supervisors.
As County leaders work to close the budget gap for next year, which was initially estimated at $23.5 million, anyone who lives, works or visits Milwaukee County is invited to learn more about the budget by attending one of the open houses.
Dates and locations include: Capitol Library on Tuesday, Sept. 4; Washington Park Urban Ecology Center on Thursday, Sept. 6; Oak Creek Civic Center on Monday, Sept. 10; Kosciuszko Community Center on Tuesday, Sept. 11; and West Allis City Hall on Thursday, Sept. 13.
Each of the five sessions will be from 5 to 7 p.m., and attendees are welcome to stay for all or part of the session. At 6 p.m., there will be a brief presentation on Milwaukee County finances, followed by an opportunity for public comment. Attendees will be able to chat with experts and decision-makers throughout the event. Abele and members of the County Board of Supervisors will be present at each open house.
"Our County budget affects everyone who's a part of our community. That’s why, for the first time, we are partnering with the County Board to get collective input from the residents we all serve. These co-hosted sessions are designed to help people get more information on their individual questions – as well as learn more about how the entire budget process works,” said Abele. "Your county, your tax dollars and your priorities go into this budget, so I hope everyone takes this opportunity to find out more."
County Board Vice Chair Marcelia Nicholson added, "Ultimately the County is using the public's money and addressing our community's priorities. These sessions are an excellent way to engage the public on what we’re doing to serve them, their families and their neighbors."
