MITCHELL AIRPORT RECEIVES HONOR ROLL DESIGNATION FROM MMSD
MKE honored for compliance with diligent environmental standards
Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele today announced that Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) has again been recognized as a member of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s (MMSD) Industrial User Honor Roll for 2018. This is the sixth consecutive year that MKE has received the designation.
“Milwaukee County continues to show world-class leadership when it comes strengthening and improving the environments in our neighborhoods,” Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said. “This recognition is evidence that our efforts are making an impact. We will keep accelerating initiatives like those at MKE that improve our quality of life and conserve resources, all while supporting clean, 21st-century jobs.”
Mitchell Airport was praised for its efforts to protect the environment while contributing to the economic vitality of the region. No violations were identified at MKE, as the Airport was in full compliance for the entire calendar year.
“As the most visited building in Wisconsin, Mitchell Airport is committed to operating in an environmentally-supportive manner,” Airport Director Brian Dranzik said. “From our compressed natural gas shuttle buses, to our smart lighting systems and low-flow plumbing fixtures, to the green roof atop our Baggage Claim, MKE is on the forefront of Milwaukee County’s sustainability and conservation efforts.”
MMSD’s letter congratulating the Airport indicated that MKE’s “diligent compliance with environmental standards helps us meet our goals and helps to preserve Lake Michigan and other area waterways for future generations to enjoy.”
MKE currently offers nonstop flights to 40+ destinations coast-to-coast, and 160 international destinations are available from Milwaukee with just one connection. MKE is served by Air Canada, Alaska, Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, United, and Volaris. The complete list of nonstop cities can be found at mitchellairport.com.
Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is owned by Milwaukee County and operated by the Department of Transportation, Airport Division, under the policy direction of the Milwaukee County Executive and the County Board of Supervisors. The Airport is entirely funded by user fees; no property tax dollars are used for the Airport’s capital improvements or for its day-to-day operation.
