Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and the Milwaukee County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) today announced that for the fourth consecutive year, Milwaukee County’s ranked as one of the top fleets in the nation by the 100 Best Fleets in North America and Governing Magazine. Since 2016, MCDOT has climbed from 100 to ranking at 48 in top performing fleet operations in the country.

“This is the fourth straight year Milwaukee County has climbed higher in the rankings as top fleets in the nation, a testament to both our talent and the investments we are making in our future,” County Executive Chris Abele said. “Milwaukee County has a world-class transportation system, and a key part of our success is MCDOT’s commitment to improving service and reliability for the residents who count on our fleets.”

MCDOT’s Fleet Management Division supplies and maintains more than 2,200 vehicles and equipment for the nearly 950,000 residents in Milwaukee County. Fleet Management services the sheriff’s office, medical examiner, county zoo and park system and the highway department. The fleet includes: cars, trucks, plows, trailers and road-salting rigs.

“We have achieved this award from the dedicated hard work of our staff that consistently go above and beyond each and every day,” Fleet Management Director Dan Goeden said. “Each and every member of our team has truly embraced the goals of Fleet Management, and strive each year to ensure we succeed. We cannot achieve this goal without the boots on the ground making it happen.”

Improvements made under the Fleet Management Division include: minimizing vehicle downtime; providing preventive maintenance; operating resourcefully, creatively and efficiently; and making consistent improvements that top industry standards.

MCDOT maintains Milwaukee County's infrastructure and operates divisions including: Airport, Highway Maintenance, Fleet Management and the Transit/Paratransit System.
