Milwaukee County Celebrates Grand Opening of Second Owen's Place Location on Milwaukee's South Side
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, along with representatives from the Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and St. Charles Youth and Family Services, celebrated the grand opening of Owen's Place, a resource center for young adults, on the city’s southside. The new facility, located at 504 W. National Ave, is the second Owen’s Place location and marks a significant milestone in the mission to provide compassionate care and support to youth and families in need.
“Investing in youth mental health services in underserved communities is critical to ensuring people in crisis have a lifeline,” said Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. “We are sending the community a clear message: Every young person, regardless of zip code, deserves access to supportive services and resources. Opening this door isn't just an act of compassion; it's an investment in the collective future of Milwaukee County, and I’m hopeful these expanded services will reach those in need.”
Owen's Place delivers comprehensive resources tailored to the unique needs of young people. The original Owen’s Place was created as a response to the need for teens and young adults to develop positive plans for their individual futures. Owen’s Place offers peer-to-peer groups, skill building, wellness classes, job readiness training, and more. With its established presence on the north side, the expansion to the south side reaffirms its commitment to reaching more individuals and families across Milwaukee County.
“This has been a commitment and pursuit to open this additional location from some time and it shows our commitment to community-based care,” said Brian McBride, Director of Wraparound Milwaukee. “Children and young adult’s mental health is critical to the overall health of our community.”
Glynis Underwood, Vice President of Community Programs at Owen's Place, expressed her enthusiasm about the new location, stating, "We are thrilled to open our doors on the south side, extending our reach to even more individuals who can benefit from our services. Owen's Place remains dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment where young people can thrive and access the support they need to succeed."
“The opening of the second Owen's Place location meets people where they are and provides greater access to services for youth,” said Shakita LaGrant-McClain, Executive Director of Milwaukee County DHHS. “We believe there is ‘No Wrong Door’ for anyone in need of our services. I’m very pleased there will be a great new community location for our young people to connect to resources and programming.”
