County Executive David Crowley Appointed Chair of NACo Large Urban Counties Caucus

MILWAUKEE, WI – Last month, during the National Association of Counties (NACo) Annual Business Meeting held in Travis County, Texas, NACo President, Mary Jo McGuire, announced the appointment of County Executive David Crowley as Chairman of the NACo Large Urban Counties Caucus (LUCC). The LUCC is a bipartisan group of leaders representing counties of over 500,000 residents. As the premier organization of large urban counties nationwide, LUCC is the voice of America’s metropolitan counties before Congress and the administration of the President of the United States.

“Urban counties play a critical role in powering state economies, maintaining critical infrastructure, strengthening public safety, and promoting health and wellness, but they also face challenges to improving lives of their residents. Milwaukee County isn’t alone in facing challenges to best serving our residents’ needs, counties like ours all over the country have unique challenges that require unique solutions,” said County Executive David Crowley. “It is an honor to be selected as chairman of the LUCC. In my experience, the most effective leadership prioritizes collaboration, transparency, and accountability. I look forward to working with this bipartisan group of leaders to bring down more resources for urban counties across the nation and making it easier for counties to make an impact in the communities we serve.”

As LUCC Chair, County Executive Crowley will lead this cohort of America’s most populous counties, and act as a voice for our residents in D.C. County Executive Crowley will have the opportunity to represent Milwaukee County, NACo, and counties across the country in advocating for policies that directly benefit our residents.

The appointment signals County Executive Crowley’s leadership and growing influence amongst his peers across the Country. In 2020, Crowley was appointed by previous NACo President, Gary Moore, as an at-large member of the NACo Board of Directors, serving as one of 10 at-large members from 2020-2021. Last year, he was named LUCC Vice-Chair by former NACo President Denise Winfrey.

According to NACo, LUCC is the premier forum for urban county leaders and is the voice for America’s metropolitan counties before Congress and the Administration. As a bipartisan caucus, LUCC meets in conjunction with the NACo Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. each winter and at the NACo Annual Conference in July. Its annual Symposium, held in the fall, is emerging as the must-attend event for LUCC members to engage with federal policymakers, influencers and innovators from world-class philanthropic organizations, think tanks, academic institutions and businesses to foster creative and new public/private collaborations and partnerships.
