The Stepping On program is a 7-week workshop designed to prevent falls in older adults through education and exercise. The goal of the program is to teach older adults safety strategies to use in everyday life to improve confidence and maintain an active lifestyle. The program content includes strength and balance exercises, safe footwear, vision, home and community safety, and medication management with guest speakers on each of these topics. The program is free of charge. Each session will last for 2 hours and will be led by 2 trained instructors. Participants must be over the age of 60, living in a home or independent apartment, and not using an assistive device for walking in the home (use of cane or walker in the community is acceptable). The class is perfect for those who have a fear of falling or have fallen in the last year. Each class will be interactive and focus on both group discussion as well as standing to perform the exercise program for strengthening and balance. This class is not suited for those with dementia.
