The Division has the responsibility for the operation of the forty-eight outdoor warning sirens located throughout Milwaukee County. These sirens are electronically tested daily to determine their serviceability. This testing is done by radio at approximately 2:00 a.m. A full test sound of the sirens is done on the second Wednesday of each month, providing weather permits. The results of these tests are reviewed and forwarded on to the contracted servicing agency to affect any repairs that may be necessary.

OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS ARE SOUNDED FOR A TORNADO WARNING
(3 minute sounding)

Once again it should be emphasized that these are outdoor warning devices and not designed to be heard inside closed buildings. All residents and business are encouraged to monitor weather alert radio systems available through electronic stores in the area.

The Milwaukee Office of the National Weather Service (http://www.crh.noaa.gov/mkx/), local media, the Weather Channel (http://www.weather.com), or a NOAA Weather Radio provides information to help keep current on approaching weather and potential severe weather warnings.
