Milwaukee County Economic Development (MCED)

PLANNING

Planning is a critical function of economic development. Every municipality in Milwaukee has developed a Smart Growth Plan. Planning is a process for building consensus, defining our values and priorities and identifying projects that will add value for Milwaukee County. Milwaukee County has partnered with the Southeast Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC) to develop a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the county of Milwaukee. The CEDS will provide a “Blueprint” for Milwaukee County’s economic development effort. The plan will take approximately 10 months to complete and is expected to be complete by 2010. WHO THE PLAN WILL BENEFIT

For the public, this plan is meant to communicate the vision, intent and the value of Milwaukee County’s economic development efforts over the next five years; reflect on your ideas and suggestions for improving the role of Milwaukee County in economic development; signify our commitment to growing the economy and improving the quality of life for all residents; serve as a baseline to show progress and allow you to hold us accountable for producing results.

For municipalities, the private sector, and community/economic organizations, this plan is additionally meant to provide a framework for cooperation and collaboration where common values, principles and goals exist.

For Milwaukee County officials, Managers, and employees, the plan is additionally meant to elevate the role of economic development as a critical function of Milwaukee County as a value generator for the residents of the county of Milwaukee; support the development of policy, operations and budget decisions that impact the capacity of Milwaukee County to meet or exceed its economic development goals; provide stability and continuity to the economic development function; create a strategic economic development planning framework to monitor the results of this plan and guide future planning efforts.
