Visitor Center & Gardens

On your visit to Wehr, make time to explore the Visitor Center. Natural history displays, a small collection of live reptiles and a screech owl await you. You'll also discover the Gardner Room, a multi-purpose room used for programs and available for rent, and the Friends of Wehr Nature Store, a gift shop full of nature-related books, gifts and toys. For your convenience, trail maps, newsletters and a variety of brochures are available at the reception desk.

Just outside the native stone and wood Visitor Center, you'll come upon labelled gardens featuring prairie, woodland, and ethnobotany plants. Stroll through this area to acquaint yourself with the local, native flora.

The Friends of Wehr Nature Store Hours   Stocked full of field guides, t-shirts, toys and gifts, The Friends of Wehr Nature Store is the place to shop for nature lovers. Whether you're looking for a tasteful, nature-oriented gift for an adult, or a fun but educational toy for a child, Wehr's gift shop has the solution to your shopping dilemma.

Items will vary seasonally, but expect to find a selection of t-shirts, sweat-shirts and jewelry with bird and flower motifs, Native American music CDs, nature-themed cards and stationery, and wildlife knick-knacks. Your children will enjoy browsing through the inexpensive collections of polished stones, animal models, glow-in-the-dark astronomy items, puppets, bug boxes, butterfly nets and the ever popular rubber snakes! The Friends of Wehr Nature Store also has a wide selection of field guides and books to help the "backyard bird-lover," prairie gardener, and other nature enthusiasts.
