From April 13, 2026 until April 23, 2026, Wisconsin was hit with extreme storms, tornados, and flooding that caused damage to the community. On May 22, 2026, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers requested a disaster declaration from President Trump, including a request for Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Individual Assistance for affected residents and families in 19 counties and one Tribal Nation.

On June 30, 2026, the President approved the Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Wisconsin. Milwaukee County was approved to receive Individual Assistance for residents affected by the storms in April.

FEMA Individual Assistance

Residents who sustained losses and damage to their homes during the storms that occured April 13-23, 2026, are now able to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. The deadline to apply is August 31, 2026.

SBA Disaster Loans Available

Homeowners, renters, and businesses who sustained losses and damage during the storms that occured April 13-23, 2026, are now able to apply for Disaster Loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The deadline to apply is August 31, 2026.

In-Person Support Services

Disaster Recovery Center
For in-person support, a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is now available in Milwaukee County. Impacted residents can speak to representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) to get help applying for federal assistance, receive updates on your FEMA application for assistance, and learn about the appeals process. No appointment required.

Those visiting the DRC can enter the Northwest Health Center through the front entrance and take the stairs down to the lower level. Individuals unable to use stairs should enter through the back entrance and ring the doorbell for access to the elevator. Signage will be available to help direct visitors.

SBA Milwaukee Business Recovery Center
For in-person support, the U.S. Small Business Administration has opened a Business Recovery Center (BRC) in Milwaukee County. SBA customer service representatives will be available to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process, and help individuals complete their application. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can schedule an appointment in advance at appointments.sba.gov.
