Special Weapons and Tactics Unit
(S.W.A.T.)

Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) deputies are assigned to regular duties throughout the Sheriff's Office and respond when needed.

S.W.A.T. operations are divided into five specialized areas – a Command Post, Tactical Teams, Hostage Negotiators, K-9 Officer and Equipment Specialists.

In 2002, Equipment Specialists were added to the S.W.A.T. Team. These team members are resnponsible for the inventory of all S.W.A.T. equipment including the care and cleaning of weapons, ammunition, gas, flash bangs, tools etc. The Equipment Specialists are the first to arrive and the last to leave training events.

With the increase of crimes committed while armed, the need for a well trained, highly disciplined S.W.A.T. unit is more important than ever. The use of S.W.A.T. increases the margin of safety in critical instances.
