 Thursday, July 15
 Friday, July 16

Celebrate life on the prairie! Join us as we journey back to the late 1800s to recreate life on the tallgrass prairie. Children will learn about history by living it!
All activities are taught in a hands-on, age-appropriate manner by friendly staff and volunteers.

During the prairie's peak summer bloom, you'll. . .

  • Experience home-life in a pioneer cabin--including giving a hand with chores!
  • Visit a one-room prairie schoolhouse to practice your lessons. Older students compete in a spelling bee.
  • Play pioneer games with your friends.
  • Learn about old-time crafts such as spinning wool yarn and making corn-husk dolls. For a social outing, sit in on a quilting bee. Make take-home crafts, too!
  • Explore the prairie! Learn about the plants. Meet live prairie critters. Stop at a buffalo hunters' camp and listen to their stories.
  • Enjoy special displays including the American Girl Doll display
  • Take part in building a Lincoln Log cabin
  • Come in costume to add to the festivities!
