The 11-point buck with the "bow tie" marking had been poached in December 2015 but now lives on as an Animal Ambassador at Wehr, where staff will use him in teaching school children about wildlife stewardship

Oak Leaf Trail logo

Underwood Creek Parkway Closures
As part of the Zoo Interchange project, Oak Leaf Trail and Deer Creek Trail will have temporary closures for the demolition and reconstruction of the I-94 bridge over Underwood Creek. Closures are expected to begin Friday, March 25 and continue through early August. One trail will remain open at all times.
See the alternate routes for each of these closures.

Menomonee River Parkway
Sewer and road work will begin the week of March 28 on the segment of parkway from 90th Street eastward to Charles Hart Parkway. The Oak Leaf Trail will remain open while work is being done. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please follow posted detours.

To sustain and strengthen the legacy of the Milwaukee County Park System, we strive to join the elite one percent—the group of agencies that have earned the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies accreditation.

Hoyt Park Pedestrian Suspension Bridge
Structural work is scheduled to close the bridge from the week of Feb. 22 until the beer-garden season. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I-794 Eastbound Exit Ramp to Lincoln Memorial Drive Closed
The ramps to Lincoln Memorial Drive remain closed. Ramps at Jackson & Van Buren may be used during this time. See the WI DOT website for details

Milwaukee River Parkway North
During construction, Milwaukee River Parkway between Bender and Green Tree roads will remain open to local traffic and will have temporary closures to through traffic.

Lake Park Bridge and Ravine Road
The Lake Park bridge above Ravine Road is open to pedestrian-only traffic. Ravine Road is closed until further notice. 


Emerald Ash Borer
What is it? Is it affecting your trees? How can you help prevent the spread?

DO NOT MOVE firewood out of the quarantine counties.

  • Buy firewood near camp sites or from a state-certified firewood vendor. See the vendor list
  • Learn the signs of EAB infestation at
  • Report ash trees showing signs of infestation. Call the EAB hotline at 1-800-462-2803 or email

Forestry Work & Construction:  
Work to improve safety along the OLT will involve intermittent closures of trail segments with minor rerouting.
