1940

County airport renamed "General Mitchell Field". U.S. National Guard designates it as air base.

1945

Will of Charles P. Allis' widow leaves home and art treasures to City of Milwaukee.

1946

Fair Employment Practices Ordinance for Milwaukee passes.
Milwaukee celebrates 100 years of cityhood.

1947

February 13
Master Plan for City of Milwaukee adopted.
December
Channel 4 – WTMJ – became the first local station and the fifteenth station in the nation.

1948

First year of construction on City of Milwaukee's low-rent and veterans' housing projects.

1949

Parking meters installed.

1950

Glendale incorporated.

1952

Hales Corners became a village.

1953

Bayside incorporated.
Milwaukee County Stadium constructed.

1954

Milwaukee Repertory Theater began.

1955

Brown Deer incorporated.

1956

Franklin incorporated.

1957

Greenfield incorporated.
Eero Saarinen War Memorial building was constructed.

1960

Milwaukee County's first County Executive, John L. Doyne, was elected.

1961

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church completed.

1962

Marine Bank completed.

1964

Police Chief Harold Brier appointed.

1966

Veterans Administration Hospital completed.

1968

Milwaukee Bucks became a National Basketball Association expansion club.
Summerfest began.

1969

The Ben and Ceil Marcus Center for the Performing Arts (formerly the Performing Arts Center) completed.

1970

Seattle Pilots became the Milwaukee Brewers.

1973

Milwaukee Admirals began.

1973

Milwaukee County Federated Library System was established.
First Wisconsin Center (currently Firstar) opened.

1976

Milwaukee County purchased the Milwaukee Public Museum.

1977

The Hoan Bridge completed.

1978

Festa Italiana debuted.

1978

Mexican Fiesta debuted.
