Little Wonders for Twos/Little Wonders for Threes
Must be accompanied by an adult.

Age 2 or Age 3

Give your young children the opportunity to explore a "wild place." Each session includes outside exploring time, songs, stories, and crafts—all relating to a simple, nature subject. You will share in your child's joy of discovery and can use the experience as a springboard for other explorations on your own.

Date   Program
Jan. 13

Swirling Snowflakes
Bundle your tots in their snowsuits and bring them over to Wehr’s Winter Wonderland. We'll read Millions of Snowflakes by Mary Siddals, make snow art, and eat a yummy snowflake snack.

Feb. 3

Winter Sleepers
Dress your child in pajamas and slippers and head to the Nature Center to discover which animals "snooze away" the winter. We'll read Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson, eat a bedtime snack, and make cozy dens to sleep in.

March 3

Spunky Skunks
Your "little stinker" will pretend to be a skunk as we learn about those smelly, striped critters of the night. We'll read a story about a spunky skunk, The Bravest of the Brave by Shutta Crum, make and wear skunk costumes, and eat a snack fit for a skunk.

April 7

Mud Puddles
Spring, raindrops, mud puddles! Your toddlers will hear the story, Mud by Mary Lyn Ray, paint with mud (chocolate pudding), and eat a “muddy” snack. We'll go puddle-jumping and make mud pies, so please bring rain boots and wear clothes that can get dirty.

May 5

Pretty Petals
Bring your little sprout to celebrate seeds and flowers. Tots will hear the Eric Carle story, Little Seed, and make magic seed necklaces. We'll go outside to help plant the Nature Play Space garden, pot a flower to take home, go on a spring wildflower walk, and enjoy a “seedy” snack.

June 2

Fish Tales
Your tot will learn about our scaly, slippery friends the fish. We'll listen to a fishy story, make fish artwork, and dip a pole into our imaginary fishin’ hole. We'll visit our fish in the aquarium and walk to the pond in search of friendly fish. We'll eat a fish snack too--the cracker kind!

July 7

Buzzy Bees
Buzz over to Wehr for this honey of a program! Your tot will make a honey-bee costume and buzz around learning the jobs of a worker bee. We'll visit bees in our display hive and enjoy a snack of their honey.

Aug. 4

Turtle Time
Crawl out of your shell! Your tot will learn about these rascally reptiles. We'll read Box Turtle at Long Pond by William T. George, make a turtle craft, and eat a snack of favorite turtle foods. We'll meet and touch Wehr’s resident turtles, and we'll walk to the pond in search of turtles, weather permitting.

Sept. 8

Wiggly Worms
Worms are wonderful! Tots will dig for their own worm, make some wormy art, and even eat a worm (gummy, of course!). We'll read Wonderful Worms by Linda Glaser and go for a short walk in the woods in search of worms.

Oct. 6

Little Pumpkins
Bring your little pumpkin to learn about these edible fruits. We'll read Pumpkin, Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington and learn how pumpkins grow. Tots will pick their own tiny pumpkin from our pumpkin patch and decorate a Jack-o-lantern to take home. We'll also enjoy a yummy pumpkin treat.

Nov. 17

Super Senses
Your toddler will explore those super nature-discovery tools we call “Our Senses.” We'll read My Five Senses by Aliki and then use each of our senses in art and science activities. We'll even test our taste buds to taste salty, sweet, and sour foods at snack time.

Dec. 8

Woodland Holiday
Celebrate the holiday season with creatures of the forest. We'll hear a holiday-themed story, make a treat for our woodland friends, and go for a short walk, weather permitting
