Milwaukee County Supervisor Patricia Jursik was elected to the 8th District in a special election in August, 2007 and was re-elected in April, 2008 and 2012. Jursik served as the Chair of the County Board's Economic and Community Development Committee from 2012 through 2015. Currently Jursik is Vice-Chair of the Committee on Judiciary, Safety and General Services and also and serves on the County Board’s Finance, Personnel and Audit, and Transportation, Public Works and Transit Committees. In 2015, Jursik was named 2015 Outstanding Elected Official and recognized for her leadership in resolving the Southridge bus crises by the Transit Group.
Jursik chaired the Special Committee on Long Range Strategic Planning. This Committee provided the leadership for downsizing the holdings of county government which is an ongoing plan for county government and initially resulted in the sale of the City Campus building and later the County Research Park. Currently the county is reviewing land use for all other buildings primarily the Courthouse and Safety Building campuses.
Jursik also created and led the Coalition to Save the Hoan Bridge which resulted in the complete replacement of the bridge in 2015. She also chaired the 794 extension Committee which resulted in adding the 794 extension to the Long Range 2035 Plan. In addition to her elected duties, she is a partner with a limited practice in the Jursik & Jursik Law Offices, located in Cudahy, WI, where she has practiced for more than 35 years.
Jursik holds both Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is also a graduate of Marquette University's School of Law, where she was Callaghan Scholar. Prior to becoming an attorney, Jursik taught grades 4 through 6 in the Milwaukee Public Schools and during President Reagan's term, Jursik was invited to the White House Conference on Women and Education. Jursik also served as Chairperson of the Milwaukee Area Technical College Board of Directors from 1981 to 1983.
Supervisor Jursik has served as Chairperson of the Cudahy Library Board, as a trustee on the Milwaukee County Federated Library System and Milwaukee Art Museum Boards. Jursik is a member of the Milwaukee County Aging & Disability Resource Center Governing Board. Jursik served as Chair of Catholic Social Services Board and has been a member the Southeast Affordable Housing Board, Cudahy Fire and Police Commission and Cudahy Community Development Authority. In 2002, the Cudahy Chamber of Commerce named Jursik "Business Person of the Year.”
Jursik enjoys many outdoor activities, including bicycling, kayaking, hiking, cross-country skiing, tennis and golf, all of which she does in the wonderful Milwaukee County Parks System. Supervisor Jursik and her husband live in Cudahy and have two adult daughters.
