Frequently Asked Questions

Open AllClose All
Where do I need to reside?

Classified positions, or those protected by Civil Service, require applicants to live in the state of Wisconsin at the time of application submission, unless otherwise specified on the job posting. You do NOT need to reside within Milwaukee County.

How do I find current job openings and apply?

View the current job postings on the top of this page. New postings are added daily. Postings contain important information such as minimum job requirements, examination process, and application procedures. Some jobs are posted as "continuous” recruitment without a specified closing date; however, they are subject to closure at any time. Other jobs are posted with a defined closing date and time after which applications will no longer be accepted.

Once you find a position of interest, click "Apply".  To apply for any position, you must complete each page of the application process. As you complete the process, please carefully review each page to ensure it contains the most up-to-date information about you and your work experience.

How do I access my profile if I forgot my password?

If you forget your password, you can reset it by clicking on the 'Forgot Password' in the pop up screen when you hit login. The application prompts you to enter your Email address. Click Submit.

The application sends  you an e-mail with a URL. Click the link inside the e-mail and your will be prompted to reset your password.

Tips:

  • The reset link will be sent to the email you used on your original profile only. If you put in a different email, it will not sent a link. If you no longer have access to your original profile e-mail, you will have to establish a new profile to continue.
  • Check SPAM and JUNK folders in your e-mail in box if link doesn't come within a few minutes.
  • If you are unable to click on the link, copy, cut, and paste it into the address bar of your web browser.
  • Performing the password reset process on a cell phone or table device may not work due to CAPTCHA security features. It is best to perform this reset on a desktop or laptop computer.
  • The Milwaukee County Department of Human Resources does not have the ability to reset your password.

How do I know that you received my application?

Upon submission, you will see a pop-up confirmation message and then receive an e-mail confirmation within five minutes. Please check your SPAM folder if you did not receive this message. If you don’t already have a profile saved to an account, the information from the application is saved for future applications automatically. If you do already have a saved profile, the confirmation screen asks whether you would like to replace the information to your account profile with the information submitted in the job application.

What is the selection and interview process?

A list of qualified candidates is established through metrics obtained during the examination/application process and referrals are then made to the hiring departments. Factors such as location, shift, and special skills may be reviewed by a department and used in determining top candidates. If a department is interested in interviewing an applicant, they will contact the candidate directly. Please regularly check both your email inbox AND your SPAM/JUNK folders as some departmental level emails are rejected by internal settings. Also ensure your phone has voicemail set up if you don’t answer unknown numbers.

How can I view the status of my application?

Once you complete the final submission of your application, you will NOT be able to view/check your application status. You will receive a confirmation email once you submit. If your status changes, you will receive an email indicating this change. The Department of Human Resources does not have further updates on who the departments are pursuing or their hiring timelines. If the department is interested in pursuing your application, they will reach out to via email and/or phone. Please regularly check both your email inbox AND your SPAM/JUNK folders as some departmental level emails are rejected by internal settings. Also ensure your phone has voicemail set up if you don’t answer unknown numbers.
