HOUSING DIVISION PROGRAMS

Each year Milwaukee County receives approximately $1.5 million in federal Community Block Grant (CDBG) funds. These funds can be used for eligible activities in the areas of housing, economic development, public facilities, social services, and planning. All funded activities must meet one of the following national objectives: assisting low and moderate-income households; eliminating or preventing slums or blight; or responding to an urgent need.

Eligible applicants include the 16 participating municipalities, Milwaukee County departments and nonprofit 501(c)3 agencies that deliver eligible activities to Milwaukee County residents.

The Housing Division  oversees the process which provides funding to organizations that provide decent housing, a suitable living environment, or expanded economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income people. Milwaukee County receives the CDBG funds as part of an annual entitlement through the Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). The Housing Division is responsible for completing the required plans, studies, and reports required by the federal programs.
