Tip from the Pro:
Good Grips Can Mean Good Shots
A properly conditioned grip is an essential – yet often overlooked – key to good golf. A dried-out slick grip requires the golfer to squeeze the club much harder than needed in order to keep the club from flying down the fairway with the golf ball. When the club is squeezed too tightly, all that extra tension slows down the hands, arms and upper body. It also slows down the clubhead, leading to a loss of distance. In addition to causing a loss of power, extra grip tension will not allow proper hand action during the swing, so accuracy also suffers.
The grips on your clubs should feel slightly tacky so that you can lightly squeeze the club without fear of it flying out of your hands. Having your clubs re-gripped is an inexpensive way to make your game more enjoyable. To properly maintain your grips and to make them last longer, you should wipe them down with a wet towel every two or three rounds. Soap is not required; just plain water will do the trick.
Good luck and enjoy golf!
