Playing on the rocks, in the garden, in the log, amid the stones, and in the little cabin

Your children will enjoy exploring and interacting with nature in the Early-Childhood Nature Playspace.
The safe, yet natural environment gives kids the opportunity to "go outside and play!" In this age of all-pervasive electronics, playing in nature has become a sought-after skill.

Rock Outcropping
These climbing rocks are a favorite of active kids!

Native-Plant Garden
Please DO touch the flowers, and leaves, and stems! Children learn about their surroundings through touch and smell. School groups can arrange field trips to get a hands-on, minds-on experience planting a garden.

Giant Log
Toddlers can walk through the log, bigger kids can crawl through it, and older kids can get a better view of the Nature Center when they stand on the giant log.

Sand, Rocks & Stones
Kids love digging in the sand and using their imaginations to construct their own special environments

Little House
Not in the prairie and not in the woods, Carol's Cabin in the playspace is just the right size for young children and their imaginations

Little Bluestem Maze
Little Bluestem grows to 1- to 2-feet high -- the perfect height to make toddlers feel adventurous, while parents can easily keep an eye on them. Other medium-sized prairie plants fill out the maze.

Benches for Parents and Caregivers
If the kids wear you out, sit and unwind on the benches surrounding the playspace or the large rocks within the play area.
