Effective January 1, 2012, the Department of Transportation and Public Works, will be referred to as the Milwaukee County Department of Transportation (MCDOT).
Mission Statement: The mission of the Milwaukee County's Department of Transportation (MCDOT) - Director's Office, is to provide essential management and support services to MCDOT's divisions through oversight, coordination and technical assistance.
The MCDOT- Director's Office, is responsible for the policy implementation, administrative functions, transportation planning, real estate services, and economic development. Services include administration of personnel through human resources, budgeting and fiscal administration, and public information and relations. The division provides management and administrative support for all department operations, and coordinates, executes and evaluates all public works programs. The division also helps ensure compliance with federal, state and regional regulations, and assists in the management of various operating and capital funds.
The Division has three sections: Administration, Transportation Planning and Economic Development. Administrative functions include establishment and implementation of departmental policies and procedures, personnel administration, accounting, safety and training and general public information services. The Department of Administrative Services- Fiscal Affairs Division provides budgeting functions to the department.
The Director's Office was responsible for receiving $63 million of stimulus funds, $26 million for transit, $12 for energy efficiency initiatives and $25 million for major reconstruction of eight road and bridge projects in the City of Milwaukee, area suburbs, the Milwaukee County Park System and several local municipalities.
The Director's Office worked successfully in obtaining $12.1 million in federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement funds through its role on the Southeast Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission's Milwaukee Urbanized Area Transportation Planning Committee. These funds support road, parks and transit projects.
