Car Seat Checks

Car Seat Checks

In a car crash, children are at the greatest risk of serious injury or death.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office now offers free car seat checks to parents, grandparents and caregivers who use child safety seats.

Did you know:

  • 4 out of 5 car seats are used/installed incorrectly?
  • The back seat is the safest place for children to ride?
  • Car seats reduce the risk of infant death in a crash by 71%?

Properly installed child safety seats save lives. However, they can be complicated to install and mistakes are common. That's why the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has established a permanent fitting station in Wauwatosa. Deputies specially trained and certified by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Association will conduct the tests by appointment. They will provide an inspection of the seat, ensure it is installed correctly and make sure that the child fits the seat (if the child is present).

Appointments are required.

If interested, please contact the Community Relations Staff at 414-226-7058  to schedule an appointment.  Checks take approximately ½ hour per seat and are conducted indoors at the County Fleet Maintenance building, 10320 W. Watertown Plank Rd. (west of the Patrol substation).
