Walk the paths of the Nature Center with your binoculars and favorite guide books in hand. You might spot fall migratory birds as they rest on their way south or the arrival of hearty wintering birds. Whether you're a beginning or expert birder, Wehr offers you some great birding opportunities

Great Backyard Bird Count 2013
Feb. 15-18, 2013
Join the fun! BirdSource, a partnership of citizens and scientists designed and managed by the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, asks you, your family, your school group, or your community group to count the birds that visit your backyard bird feeders. To participate, visit the BirdSource website . (external link)
If you know "backyard birders" who do not have internet access, let them know that they can come to Wehr to have their data entered in the national database.
Federal Junior Duck Stamp Display
Winning entries from local southeastern Wisconsin schools will be on display. The national winner has his or her name printed on the stamp the year following the competition.
Christmas Bird Count
Sat., Dec. 21, 2013, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Help count birds wintering at Wehr. You'll meet some of the most talented and persistent birders in the area as we count birds in the most important and longest-running bird count, the National Audubon Society's 114th annual Christmas Bird Count. This count is held throughout the country and provides information on long-term trends. Our results will be submitted to the Wisconsin Society of Ornithology (external link). Bring field guides and binoculars if you'd like. A map of Wehr's boundaries will be available for each participant.
Past participants may choose to go directly to a count site. If so, please let Mark know the location where you will be counting and request a data sheet by contacting him at email@example.com or (414) 425-8550
At noon, enjoy a potluck chili lunch. We’ll supply the chili, and you may choose to bring a dish to pass--but it’s not required.
Continue the count in the afternoon if you've been "bitten by the birding bug."
Register by the Saturday prior to the program
