Maria Elena Perez, Ph.D.
Maria Elena Perez, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and Director of Behavioral Health at the Sixteenth Street Community Health Center on Milwaukee’s south side. She attended Northern Illinois University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1988. She later attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for her Masters degree in educational psychology, and then practiced in mental health in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She went on to earn her doctorate in psychology at Marquette University in 2007 while helping to develop the behavioral health department at the Sixteenth Street Community Health Center. Additionally, she has been an adjunct professor at Marquette University and currently teaches at Milwaukee Area Technical College and Lakeland College. She is published in the Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences and the Journal of Counseling Psychology and has offered many presentations on a variety of topics in mental health.
Maria Elena is daughter to Enrique and Teresa Perez, her parents who emigrated from Cuba in 1962. She was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Wisconsin 28 years ago. She is fully bilingual and is married to Lawrence Oberbruner. They have five children and reside in Waukesha. On her spare time she enjoys reading, hiking, and gardening.
