Activities as of December 2010:

  • Installation of countdown timer lights for the intersection of Oakland & Edgewood (donated by Shorewood’s Men Club)
  • Designated two “Senior Parking” spaces at Pick ‘N Save (with Roundy's inc)
  • Mailed polling place information on handicapped-accessible entrance at Atwater School 
  • Promoted use of absentee ballots for frail older adults
  • Instituted "Shorewood Connects" program to provide a one time morning of yard work for older adults in need of assistance (114 volunteers helped 46 older adult households in 2010)
  • Recruited volunteers to help shovel snow
  • With Shorewood High School, offered free performing arts series for older adult residents
  • Developed a Shorewood Connects Neighbors initiative to encourage the development of active block groups
  • Launched a Shorewood Connects Facebook page
  • Gained regular coverage of senior issues in the Village's quarterly publication, Shorewood Today
